A barrel-shaped votive in ribbed white-brown lustre glass, with two cast banana leaves laid against the foot and a brass lid topped by a rearing elephant, trunk lifted — the traditional posture for good fortune. Lit, the ribbing breaks the flame into vertical lines all the way round the glass, which is why it works better than a plain votive on a low coffee table. The lid keeps dust out between uses, and once the candle is spent the glass makes a good small jar. Six inches tall. Trim the wick to 5 mm; never burn unattended or to the last centimetre.
